Meet Nick
Nick Reeves is a Chicago-based cellist whose work embraces a broad vision of chamber music, spanning traditional repertoire, historical performance, and contemporary improvisation.
Originally from Oakland, California, he is drawn to collaborative music-making in both conventional and experimental settings. As a chamber musician, Reeves has performed at the Valley of the Moon Music Festival, participated in multiple Musaics of the Bay Artist Residencies, and attended Cortona Sessions in the Netherlands. He has appeared with ensembles including the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra and Ensemble Affect, and has collaborated with artists such as Nancy Zhou, Winston Choi, Tanya Tomkins, Peter Myers, Nigel Armstrong, Audrey Vardanega, Marc Destrube, Jeffrey LeDeur, Rachel Wong, Elizabeth Blumenstock, and Jerry Kuderna.
Deeply committed to new music, Reeves has premiered over 20 works and has been featured on WQXR, KDFC, and Revolutions Per Minute, hosted by pianist Sarah Cahill. An avid improviser, he has performed with musicians including Dan Plonsey, Ari Brown, Lorin Benedict, and Nathan Nakadegawa Lee.
Reeves graduated with honors from Roosevelt University and is currently a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago.
